Best Hide: A Display Font That Makes Your Brand Feel Alive

Last Tuesday, I sat at my kitchen table with three printed versions of my candle labels—each one using a different font—and none of them quite felt like mine. My small-batch soy candles are hand-poured, scented with real botanicals, and wrapped in recycled kraft paper. But the labels? They looked generic. Like something you’d grab off a free font site and slap on without thinking. That’s when I remembered Best Hide.

It wasn’t love at first sight—I scrolled past it twice. But then I saw how it looked on a mockup of a matte black candle jar: bold, chunky letters with just enough playfulness to feel human, not robotic. No sharp edges, no cold minimalism—just warm, confident presence. Best Hide is a display font, designed not for paragraphs but for moments that need to be felt: a logo, a jar label, a café menu board, or the “New Arrivals” banner on your online shop.

What makes Best Hide work so well for small businesses is its personality—it’s friendly without being childish, distinctive without being distracting. The letters have generous spacing, rounded corners, and a slight bounce in their rhythm. It doesn’t shout; it leans in and says, “Hey, I’m here—and I’m glad you are too.” That’s exactly the tone I wanted for my brand: grounded, thoughtful, and quietly joyful.

I started small. First, I swapped out the font on my thank-you cards (the ones tucked into every candle box). Instant upgrade. Then the product tags—those little kraft paper hangtags with scent names like “Rain & Cedar” and “Vanilla Smoke.” With Best Hide, each name had weight and warmth. Even my Instagram Story highlights got a refresh: the little icons now say “Shop,” “Scents,” and “Behind the Wick” in clean, chunky letters that pop against soft beige backgrounds.

Here’s where Best Hide shines most: short, high-impact text. It’s perfect for logos (especially when paired with a clean sans serif for your tagline), packaging titles (“Hand-Poured,” “Small Batch,” “Locally Made”), social media banners, website hero headers, and even sticker designs for your mailer boxes. It’s not meant for body copy—but that’s the point. A great display font isn’t trying to do everything. It’s there to anchor your visual identity, to give your brand a voice you can almost hear.

Readability matters—even with a fun font. On small labels (like 1.5-inch candle jar stickers), I keep it to one or two words max, sized at least 14pt. For mobile screens—especially Instagram thumbnails or email headers—I test it at 200% zoom to make sure curves stay smooth and spacing stays open. And because I print physical packaging, I always check the .OTF file renders cleanly in my design software before sending to the printer. (Good news: Best Hide comes with clean OpenType files, standard ligatures, and basic multilingual support—more than enough for English, Spanish, and French labels.)

Pairing Best Hide is easier than you’d think. I use it with Inter (a friendly, highly legible sans serif) for all supporting text—ingredients lists, care instructions, website body copy. The contrast works beautifully: chunky + clean, expressive + reliable. For a more elevated look—say, on a holiday gift box or boutique shopping bag—I’ll swap in a light-weight serif like Playfair Display for subheadings. And if you’re going for handmade charm, try pairing it with a subtle handwritten font (just one weight, used sparingly!) for quotes or short notes on thank-you cards.

One thing I learned the hard way: not all display fonts play well with commercial use. Before I added Best Hide to my Canva templates for client work, I double-checked the license. It’s a commercial font, meaning I can use it on product packaging, digital ads, merch, and even resellable design assets—as long as I’m the one licensing it. No hidden restrictions, no surprise fees. That peace of mind? Priceless when you’re juggling orders, photoshoots, and tax prep.

Typography isn’t just decoration—it’s one of the first things people notice about your brand. Think about walking into a café: before you taste the latte or smell the pastries, you see the chalkboard menu. Or scrolling past an Instagram ad: you decide in under two seconds whether to pause. Best Hide helps your business land that first impression—not with flash, but with clarity and character. It tells people, “This was made with care,” even before they read a single word.

Since switching, customers have mentioned the labels more than once—“I saved the tag!” or “Your packaging feels so intentional.” That’s not accidental. Consistent, considered typography builds trust. It signals that you pay attention to details, that you respect your customer’s time and eyesight, and that your brand has a point of view. You don’t need a full rebrand to get there. Sometimes, it starts with one font—one that feels like home.

So if you’re refreshing your brand visuals this season—whether it’s new soap labels, a redesigned menu board, updated Etsy banners, or simply wanting your business cards to reflect who you really are—give Best Hide a try. Not as a gimmick, but as a quiet, confident statement. Because the best kind of branding doesn’t shout. It settles in, feels familiar, and makes people want to come back.
